The Client
Visit Somerset is dedicated to promoting Somerset as a holiday destination for visitors from the UK and around the world. The site offers information on how to get to Somerset, accommodation, activities, transportation, and more. Owned and operated by the Somerset Tourism Association, a Community Interest Company run by private sector companies, the Association focuses on benefitting visitors and locals alike.

The Brief
We were tasked with designing and developing a new, state-of-the-art website that presented a clear, confident Somerset brand. As a sensory, vibrant brand, the site needed to have a unique visual style to entice the visitor into learning more and booking a stay.

What We Did
Visit Somerset had an extremely high profile in its market, with a discerning client base. Our approach was rooted in the very best practices in design, accessibility and usability to deliver a high-calibre product.

Our work produced an all-encompassing, highly interactive platform through which international tourists and local visitors could discover things to do, sights to see and plan a trip.

We designed a future-proofed, mobile-responsive destination website that satisfied the needs and preferences of key audience groups. The user journeys were designed to lead to conversion, where visitors could book a trip to Somerset via self-service. The responsive site facilitated an integrated experience of the brand’s key digital touchpoints, including social channels and email.

For the UX, we needed to obtain exceptional clarity on user journeys. On UI / Design, our design team took the outputs from our UX team and worked those into award-winning designs.

Development of the Visit Somerset site was completed and fully tested at all stages in line with our project delivery. The site includes extensive use of imagery, video, and sound. As well as integrating with Google maps, we also developed custom mapping functionality.

The site was a finalist in the eirSpider Awards for its social media integration and digital marketing. We completed an extensive migration of data from the client’s previous system – some by automated tools, some by process and the last 5% “by hand”. We delivered extensive training and provided bespoke documentation for admin staff, with the on-site training delivered by the actual developers of the site. We continue to provide Visit Somerset with support and maintenance, in addition to digital marketing consultancy to ensure the site remains optimised for SEO.
