Coca-Cola Replaces Brand With Fan Names For Viral Campaign

Written by Simply Zesty on

Coca-Cola are known for their innovative and viral campaigns and are aiming to repeat its success through its next offering which aims to bring people together by linking them with their product. As part of its 'Share a Coke' campaign in Australia, Coca-cola is replacing its brand name on its bottles and cans with 150 different names in the run up to Christmas.

As apart of their Feelgood campaign, 150 of the most common names, ranging from Aaron to Sarah to Matt to Will, have been printed on bottles and cans to be sold at retail outlets. Each of the 150 names on offer come with a song which can be downloaded through the Coca-Cola Australian Facebook page.

Also over the months of October and November, consumers can get their names printed on a can of coke for free at one of 18 Westfield Shopping Centres if their name isn't on the list of preselected names.

Alongside this campaign, Facebook fans can create their own Coke commercials with pictures from their Facebook albums, share a virtual coke and be eligible to win $50,000 to share with their friends.

The idea is that we all know a Matt or Sarah and that consumers will search for their friends' names. Anyone who wants to get their name printed or see if it's on the list can visit Coca-cola's Australian Facebook page to find out more.

Coca-Cola are hoping that this campaign will be a viral hit and - having invested $5 million into it - that over 268 million bottles and cans will be sold over the next three months. When the campaign reaches December, the campaign will change to 'share a Coke with Santa,' with can then showing Rudolph and other reindeer names instead of the 150 names in previous months.
