Vidschool Is Platform For Teachers

New Irish website Vidschool is aimed at the emerging online educational market and places an emphasis on teaching students through video. Unlike some existing services already on the market which teach students direct Vidschool aims to become the middle man or platform for teachers to share their knowledge. The website launched at Techcrunch 50 in San Fransisco and is currently adding teachers to their platform. In their own words…

“VidSchool is determined to become the ultimate online portal for learning anything from Algebra to Zoology. We bring teachers and students together in one location to learn and teach on their own terms, in their own time.

VidSchool students can decide on what subject they would like to learn, search through the VidSchool website to find a teacher who teaches that subject and start learning straight away. This also allows students to study and learn at times that are convenient to them rather than fit into someone else’s schedule, from the comfort of their own home.

Teachers can pre-record their classes for any subject they specialise in, upload a class or a whole course to VidSchool and start teaching students all over the world immediately. With pre-recorded content, teachers are also able to continue providing expertise to students all over the world while they actually sleep”

The idea is a sound one and the revenue model makes sense as there are a lot of teachers all over the world on low salaries and with lots of spare time on their hands who will want to make a few extra bob on the side. It will be interesting to see if an Irish site can gain traction in what is sure to be a hotly contested market in the coming months.
