Must Watch Video – Predicting The Future Of Social Media, Apple And Google
Roger McNamee is a partner at Elevation partners (the one that U2 front man Bono owns) and he gave a talk recently which is embedded below that is an absolute must watch for anybody working in the technology, mobile or social media industries. He makes a lot of predictions which are backed up with some stunning facts including that Microsoft is basically dead in the water, Google are going to struggle because of their lack of mobile search queries and that Facebook will start charging for their social graph with services like Facebook connect. His main points are that everything is changing and when he tells you that “Microsoft’s share of internet-connected devices has gone from 95% to under 50% in 3 years” you know that he is right on top of trends. In terms of social he claims that “Facebook has decided that they’re Twitter on steroids” and he should really know as one of the major investors in that company. He also claims that social media is a phase and that in the future it’s not good enough for a company to be social and that it will just be a “feature”. You won’t agree with everything in the video but he does talk a lot of sense and get you thinking about the future and how it might not be as predictable as we all think. You can watch the first 10 minutes of the video embedded here but you will have to click through to the site to see the entire video.
