If you are not using Tweetdeck for you Twitter activity already then you really need to read this post. Tweetdeck is essentially a client for Twitter which means it takes the Twitter website and adds features and makes it a lot easier to use. I am not going to go into the technical side of things here as this is a post aimed at people who don’t know much about Tweetdeck at all. Your best bet is to go to Tweetdeck and download the service and start playing around with it using a few of the tips in the videos below. Users who have been using Tweetdeck for some time now might even pick up a few tips here that improve the experience and decrease the noise…
Filtering Out TV Shows, Conferences And Sports Events
This is something that people complain all the time about saying that Twitter gets too noisy when events are on but it really couldn’t be much simpler to cut all the noise out. Imagine there is a big rugby game on and you hate rugby…Just filter every single tweet out that subject out and concentrate on the rest of the conversation…
How To Get Business And Traffic
For many people the main aim of using twitter and services like Tweetdeck is to drive traffic to their websites or to get business leads. We can’t get away from that, it is a fact. I wanted to use the example of Lookandtaste my food website to illustrate how simple it is to find people in your niche and to help them with the questions they have to increase traffic and people coming to your site…
Searching For People Through Tweetdeck
Most people find people on Twitter by using the web or search and adding them that way. There is though a very good search functionality built in to Tweetdeck that not many people know about and that can help you to find and follow the right people in an instant.
Sorting People In To Groups
As you start to find more people to follow and interact with it can seem like you are getting a barrage of information through Tweetdeck which can be very hard to follow and make sense out of but if you follow this video and use the group functions you’ll be able to manage your account far more effectively.
Monitoring Your Brand Or Business
This works best for big brands and businesses but there is no reason why small businesses shouldn’t be getting involved with this as well and finding information that is relevant to their own niche or area. You should know what people are saying about you and your business and defending yourself wherever appropriate.
Managing Multiple Accounts
Not everybody will have more than one account but as soon as you do have more than one twitter account you will need to use TWeetdeck to monitor what is going on over multiple channels as it beats logging in and out of different accounts online. As I say in the video though be careful as it can be very easy to confuse different accounts and send out the wrong information.
Finding The Good Content
There can be an awful lot of noise and chatter on Tweetdeck and if you are like me and you use Tweetdeck for the main purpose of finding good content then you might want to follow a couple of these simple tips that will help you find all the great content that people are sharing.
Adjusting The Frequency
If you start following a lot of people you may find that your API count starts to run out and that you can’t do anything with Twitter for large periods of time through Tweetdeck so we show you a couple of ways of tinkering with your API settings to make sure you get the most out of Tweetdeck.
Making Tweetdeck Look Beautiful
This may seem trivial but you can change the look and feel of Tweetdeck and if it is something that you are going to be using for large periods of time you may want to consider having a little tinker around with some of the colours.
Seeing Where Your Clicks Come From
If you are using twitter to build traffic and are interested in seeing where your links go to and who clicks on them you will want to make sure that you are set up with a bit.ly account and that it is linked to your tweetdeck as we show you in the video.

Thanks, Niall, fantastic information, been using TweetDeck for a while now, after working through your blog post I feel as if I’ve been driving my car in first gear all the time………….and only now discover it’s got a six speed gearbox.
Ah that is great to know Leon! That is the main reason why I do these sorts of posts so as people can learn stuff faster than I did at the start!
This was an excellent guide – well done Niall. I particularly liked the fact it was 10 separate videos of 1 minute or so. If it had been one long 12 minute video I probably wouldn’t have watched it but in such bite-sized chunks (no pun intended!) I actually ended up watching all 10 back-to-back! Pretty clever stuff! Thank you.
Thanks for that Sean. I know what you mean about videos being too long and boring. I do a lot of stuff with video and TBH I find that people’s attention span just goes after a couple of minutes. Better to keep it short and snappy as you say
Very helpful, Niall, thanks !
Super post
Excellent! Thanks for the juicy tips.
Very informative Niall. I agree with Sean I like the short videos. I look forward to watching future posts. Thank you

Tweetdeck does have some great features that you can’t get elsewhere, but it’s missing one very important accessibility feature: you can’t make the font any larger. Or have they finally added this?

Great videos and great information! I’m a huge Tweetdeck fan and use it every day. Did not know about filtering out keywords and will definitely use it as a lot of my friends attend the same conferences at the same time, thus filling my stream with the same tweets. Thanks for taking the time to post these videos and share your info.
*Cheers-Karen
Great work of bringing it all together! Thank you very much for the social media eBook! Natascha L.

Hey I just wanted to let you know, I actually like the piece of writing on your web site. But I am using Flock on a machine running version 8.x of Crashbang Ubuntu and the UI aren’t quite proper. Not a strong deal, I can still fundamentally read the articles and search for info, but just wanted to inform you about that. The navigation bar is kind of tough to use with the config I’m running. Keep up the great work!
