Digital is my passion. Great article, really interesting stuff. For everyone who is interested how mind works, first I recomend you take this IQ Test here http://cpa.ly/5VD ... so you know at what level you are.

Hi Dave, sounds interesting. Can you let me know when the article's published? You can reach me at lauren@simplyzesty.com I'll take your points about Nielsen on board and look more into how the study was conducted.
Thanks for reading slower than usual :)

Lauren, I did scan it myself, but slower than usual. Actually fairly close to my normal very fast reading. (I'm pretty close to a speed reader, from 3rd grade)

As it turns out, I'm about to publish an article about non-writers writing for non-readers. You might like that.

I have a large number of very definite opinions about writing for the web, and a lot of questions where the answer seems unclear. Happy to discuss.

Overall, a good article.

Except for Nielsen reference. I consider his studies to have experimental bias. I have enough formal credentials to go head to head on that too.

Hi Case, it definitely does feel frenzied sometimes. I think the key is to educate yourself into the best ways to consume content and making sure you're getting a break from the online world.
It shouldn't be the case the quantity has any effect on quality but so many of us simply don't have the time to read lengthy articles anymore. The way we consume information is definitely changing, but that doesn't have to be a bad thing.

Good one Simon.
This post covers a great topic, especially the comments on journalism's rush to rush. Quality seems to be losing to Quantity due to the very concepts you bring up. When I open my Google Reader each day, I feel like I'm in a race to read through all the info collected since the day before. This much frenziness can't be good.
