Motivation is always a big factor here, but, as Tim Harford says it over an over again in "The Logic of Life", rational people respond to incentives, and we are all rational (at least subconsciously, even if sometimes the choices we make may seem irrational to others). So all that's left is to come up with incentives - internal, personal and motivating incentives! I think it works to take small steps, but them them regularly and consciously, the walk up the hill will be less tiring.

It's better late than never. Now is the moment to get the ideas off the ground. Often the first step is the crucial ones. We often hesitate to take the first step thinking of the consequences, but once we place the first step, we have attained the first step to victory.

Couldn't agree with you more! Especially on the point of determination. I also think another important thing to remember: is to believe in yourself no matter what others say or how insane you think you've gone... Just, keep on truckin'
