Uber Cabs – Review And Interview With CEO
One of the hottest new start ups that we have spotted on the web in the last couple of months is Uber Cab. This San Fransisco start up aims to solve one of the biggest problems that many of us face on a daily basis…finding a cab. We wanted to know what the thinking was behind this exciting start up and so interviewed CEO Ryan Graves. Ryan has experience working at Foursquare and has based Ubercab in San Fransisco a place where new technology is most likely to be well received. For what it is worth we think that this is a brilliant service and even though we live in a city with one of the highest population of cabs per person there are plenty of times when we could have done with this service in the last couple of years. Here is hoping it really flies and starts spreading all over the world in the near future.
How long have you been involved in the online space
I’ve been interested in startups for about 5 yrs. I realized that a good idea could disrupt an entire industry pretty easily and that’s exciting.
Where did the idea for the new app come from?
The idea stems from the obvious inconvenience of cabs. Garrett Camp, the now CEO of StumbleUpon came up with the idea when thinking about how normal people could travel like European diplomats. We are providing a very similar experience for everyone.
How do you see the product evolving?
I think Uber will be a go to for all quality car service. Any time you don’t want to trust your meeting or date to a taxi, Uber will provide that wow experience.
How will your experience at Foursquare help build the product out further?
I learned a ton about community at foursquare. Those guys are brilliant with engaging and listening to users. We are now, and will continue to be strong with that at Uber.
Do you have plans to launch this around the world in other cities?
Definitely! We want to learn how to provide an amazing experience in a few cities, then blow it out everywhere. We’ll definitely be in major metros bit we’re also excited for our ability to bring convenient car service to cities without a cab culture.
How do you find it in San Francisco with so many other great start ups there?
The startup culture here is amazing. It’s much stronger than I anticipated and the brain power in the Valley is inspiring. Also, the proximity to the people building the most interesting things on the web is awesome. Every party you go to you meet someone who is killing it.
