Facebook Sees x10 More Videos Than Twitter; Google TV Video Plays Grow by 91%
An infographic that gives details from a Q4 2011 Video Index Report released by Ooyala, an online video provider, reveals that total video play on Google TV grew by 91 per cent in the last quarter. This data comes after Google TV revealed an update to their YouTube app which goes further towards emulating the full YouTube experience and indicates that Google TV looks set to grow and improve this year.
Some other interesting stats from the infographic are that tablet users watch videos for longer than smartphone users – probably something to do with the wider display – and that for every one video shared on Twitter, more than ten were shared on Facebook. This could be because of the way videos sit on Facebook newsfeeds and walls, while watching a video on Twitter generally involves clicking on a link.
The infographic also reveals that non-desktop video views (e.g. mobiles, tablets, consoles, connected TVs) grew steadily in the last quarter, confirming what many of us new, that video is becoming a central part of the online experience, no matter what kind of device you use to access the web, though viewer habits vary on each device, as the report revealed that tablet viewers “continue to be far more engaged than desktop viewers -they were 45% more likely to complete at least 75% of videos played”.
Ooyala predict that tablet shares of video plays will see the most dramatic projected growth this year, citing a projected rate of 52 per cent, with mobile at 376 per cent. All food for thought for companies looking to target consumers through video, through a variety of different devices.
