CEO Interview – Getglue Helps You Check Out The Best New Content
Like it? Tell your friends!
A couple of weeks ago we wrote about one of the hottest and most useful new apps around called Getglue. For those of you who don’t have time to read the original post Getglue basically helps you find amazing films, TV shows and books by showing you what your friends are checking out. It’s a sort of Facebook/Foursquare for content and we loved it the moment we set eyes on it. Wanting to find out a little more about the service and thinking behind it we interviewed CEO of Getglue Alex Iskold and asked him about some of the vision behind this great new service.
Can you explain how you came up with the idea for GetGlue & how long it was an idea before it became a reality?
It started with thinking about what would happen if the internet was about things instead of pages. In real world, we have books, music, movies, etc. but on the web all we had was pages and experiences felt so fragmented. We started GetGlue with the idea of building fun entertainment network that connected friends and fans around things they like across the web and through time.It then evolved into an idea of a social network where people can check-in, build up their taste profiles, see what their friends are into, get suggestions for new entertainment and also earn fun rewards for their achievements.
What has been the biggest challenge with GetGlue?
Behind friendly and fun UI/UX on GetGlue.com, on iPhone and in the addons for all major browsers, there is a powerful tech that holds our growing taste graph for entertainment. To make the whole thing work and scale is a pretty big technical challenge.
If you weren’t the CEO of GetGlue, what do you think you would be doing?
I would be a CEO or a founder of another startup.

Another well known startup, Foursquare has been the subject of much take over talk recently, what would you do in their position?
It all depends on the situation. I am not really privy to details, just fortunate enough to have the same investors (Union Square Ventures). I think Foursquare has made a wonderful choice and I look forward to seeing them grow and change the way we experience local services.
What social media platform (besides GetGlue) takes up most of your time?
Twitter. I don’t really Facebook or anything else for that matter.
Tell us something that no one knows about you and can’t be found on GetGlue!
I don’t have any super deep secrets, most of my stuff is pretty public on Twitter and on GetGlue ![]()
You can read more on the Getglue blog and make sure to sign up for your profile here now. you won’t regret it.
