Augmented reality is the buzzword at the moment, the current ‘thing’ to do in social media. AR in itself is not a new concept, but the ability to combine AR with smartphones is what has got everyone excited most recently. It’s just about tipping over into the mainstream and  there are already some amazing examples of  AR. To  give you an idea of how advanced we really are, I’ve outlined a few of these so you can see them in action.

Augmented Reality Tshirt

If the one problem you had with magazines before now was that you couldn’t wear them and play rock, paper, scissors with them, then this ones for you! A new Swedish magazine has launched on a tshirt and in the first issue, you can play the game along with any web camera.

iPhone in an iPhone

If one iphone just isn’t enough for you, this handy little app shows you an iphone within your iphone which you can play around with. Because… why not?

NDubz launch on AR

UK group NDubz have launched an augmented reality site for their new album. Simply visit the NDubz 3D site, follow the simple instructions and you can have NDubz performing right before your very eyes.

Night at the Museum 2

Soon we won’t remember a time when movies are released without integration with Augmented Reality. Night at the Museum 2. Similar to NDubz, you hold up the DVD packaging to the screen and watch the characters come to life.

Augmented Reality Helicpoter

This is pretty cool – saving the best til last. The Parrot AR drone is a brand new iPhone controlled quadricopter. You can control the quadricopter using wifi with just your iphone, but better than that you can fight with other machines using augmented reality, as the video above shows. To see just how amazing the quadricopter is even without the AR games, check out the video below.
