New Follow Button Helps You Grow Followers 15% In A Week
When the new follow button launched last week I was interested in seeing what sort of affect it would have on followers especially for publishing sites. We added it here to the site and sat back and watched Twitter followers soar by 15% in just one week. Like many site we had a simple twitter icon saying follow us on Twitter but the simplicity of this button and the one click solution clearly changes everything and is making people follow who never would have before. Twitter launched this with the idea of making it easier for people to follow users as they surfed the web and discovered interesting things on websites. The big advantage of the button is that you don’t have to leave the site and following is not a 2 click process like it normally is for people who have little Twitter icons linking through to their site. It’s a one click solution.
The Evidence
All we did was add the little button that you can see below to the sidebar of this blog. You can see by clicking on it that as long as you are logged in to your Twitter account the follow becomes a bit of an impulse action very much like the Facebook like button. I’ve embedded this one in to an actual blog post as an example and you can get your own one here

You can see from the graph below how adding the button to our own blog here has rapidly increased the amount of people following us. It’s a 15% increase in just over a week and when you look at the slow and steady growth before that you can see that the new button is a winner for both publishers and for Twitter themselves as they try to increase interaction.

So if I was you and you had any sort of business or publishing site and wanted new people to start following you on Twitter I would certainly advise you to place the follow button in as prominent position as possible on your website or blog. It works. Head over and get yours here.
