2010 In Review According To Google And Twitter

You can tell it’s the end of the year because all the “best of” and predictions are starting to pop up around the web. The big boys are out early with theirs this year as Twitter and Google aim to steal the limelight with a couple of impressive releases. The interesting thing here is that by analyzing both the trending topics and Google search terms it gives us an excellent picture of the year to date and the major events and trends from around the planet.

Top Twitter Trends

There have been a staggering 25 billion tweets this year and the good folks over at Twitter have been analyzing those tweets to determine the top trends of the year. With their finger very much on the pulse in terms of what people are talking about day to day this really is a good barometer of what the world is talking about and passionate about. You can see the top 10 overall list below but they also drill down in to categories as well.

Google

Google pretty much started this trend of looking over the last year’s search terms as a nifty little promotion tool for them and this year they’ve taken things up a notch with a very slick video. You forget some of the things that have happened over the last year but this video brings Google’s biggest searched terms to life in a very visual way.
