A Small Business Using Social Media Well This Christmas

I want to use this post to profile one of the best examples of social media for a small business : the wonderful Fran Hollywood aka ‘Made in Hollywood’. In a nutshell, Made in Hollywood are a company that offer polystyrene and foam solutions for marketing and other areas. Not very sexy right? Think again. This week Fran showed his social media savvy once again.
It started with a tweet

Sarah, our account manager, picked up on a tweet by @madeinhollywood, when he said that he was cutting snowflakes for his son’s Christmas fair. He soon replied…

Was it too good to be true?
Some nervous waiting ensued in the Simply Zesty office and yesterday, we received a rather lovely package in the post

And then it snowed
After much hunting of the right tools and some painstaking assembly by Sarah, our office was transformed from this

to this

Fran didn’t ask for any money for the decorations, he simply did something out of generosity to bring some much needed Christmas cheer to the office. And he definitely didn’t ask us to blog about it or even take pictures of the finished product. But we felt compelled to because Fran had done something so nice and unexpected. It genuinely brightened up our day and our office and we wanted to show our appreciation by sharing it on our blog and hopefully, helping Fran out with a bit of promotion for his business. Again, which he never even hinted at.
And those that know Fran will know that this isn’t an isolated incident. He is fairly well known as the foamy friend (my phrase) of the social media scene in Ireland. He provided polystyrene pieces at the Irish blog awards and also for Maxroam, for example, and you can see more of his impressive work on his marketing reel.
So, a big thanks to Fran at Made in Hollywood, be sure to check his site out for all your foam and polystyrene needs. As far as I’m aware, he’s the best in the business

[...] Another sign that we created was a large 3D twitter bird sign with our address. We use twitter, a social media micro-blogging service, to interact with clients and friends about new projects or anything interesting to do with polystyrene or motorsport (there are a few petrol heads around here). If you use twitter you can follow us @madeinhollywood. We are also going to communicate with existing clients and customers using a Newsletter that we intend to launch in the coming month. If you haven’t subscribed, please use the sign-up box, as we will be offering a prize in the first issue. We will be keeping you posted on new projects, competitions, offers, and occasionally giving away free stuff. Yes, free stuff! It does happen from time to time! Polystyrene snowflakes were our last giveaway, you can read all about it from SimplyZesty. [...]
