It's a fine line and I can see the benefit in it helping you to get in front of new eyeballs but I'd prefer the engagement primarily to be with the content overall. I think if people really want to submit something to Digg etc.. then they're probably going to do it anyway, regardless of whether you have the buttons or not. It is very hard to quantify the value of sharing, although anicdotally there are some good examples. Sharing is a big positive to result from the increasing mass asoption of social media, but like anything in life, getting the balance right is paramount. Clever post.
