Just How Strange Are Our Social Media Habits?

If you think about some of the things that we do in the online world they really are very strange and this little video does a great job of highlighting what strange little customs we have in the online world and how they just would never translate to the real world. It’s funny because I share photos of my breakfast with random strangers on Instagram every day, I tell thousands of people on Twitter what I am up to and even on the slightly more private Facebook I share more than I probably should. It’s just the way the web is built at the moment and if anything the next series of apps and services are going to be even more public. Privacy will become a thing of the past. There is a whole generation of teens growing up who never knew what privacy was and just expect everything to be shared and publicly available. I do find it very strange that most of us know more about random strangers thanks to Twitter than we do about say our own friends and family. None of this really translates in to the real world though (although some of the newer apps are linking the online world to the offline world) as we mostly walk down the street with very little social interactions.
