Job hunting just got awesome!

We’ve written a couple of posts on here about using social media to find a job, but had to share this one example with you. We all know that it’s a crowded job market out there and people are having to get a bit more creative to catch an employer’s attention. Nowhere is this demonstrated better than by this job-hunter, Alec Brownstein , who found a unique way to get in front of his dream employers.
Clearly the best thing about this example is that it did actually lead to a job at one of the agency’s he targeted. And using an advertising medium to target an advertising executive is obviously genius! As an employer this is something that would stand out a mile to me and it’s great to see examples of people being proactive and thinking outside the box to approach prospective employers. I would imagine the standard CV and covering letter won’t be around much longer, as online affords so many greater opportunities…

Genius
love it. Very inventive. Is it a given these days that everyone Google’s themselves!
That’s awesome. Thanks for posting! I’m currently writing a series of posts on my blog dedicated to the marketing hiring process – The Pivot Table: Getting A New Job In Marketing. I hope you don’t mind if I link this as a great example of proving you can do the job before ever meeting the hiring manager.
Hi Corey, no problem! The person behind it has made it all public so as long as you attribute it to them I’m sure it’s fine.

A brilliant idea and a good way to get noticed – I just wonder now how many copycats will appear? Also, it could be a good idea for an improvement to Linked-In or even a Facebook app… if you’d be comfortable with a potential employer seeing your facebook!
If you hear of any copycats, let me know! Sure that plenty will follow. I don’t think we’ll see much of this sort of thing in Facebook, from what I can tell people are generally terrified their employer will find them
Absolutly love it!! now that’s what you call thinking outside the box
Hey, this is a great example of ‘reaching out’ to your target employer. Gets you noticed. Could it backfire? I was thinking if it could create a negative impression on the related person (in this case) and instead, decrease your chance of hitting the target?
Always a chance it could backfire, but you’re playing up to people’s egos and that’s generally a good thing!
Genius… but what does Tony Granger think?
Great example of doing something different from the norm to stand out and get a response. Fantastic thanks for sharing.
Very impressive. Well done to him. I love seeing people put this kind of creative thought into job seeking. I’m sure exact copycats will spring up, and fair play to those if they’re productive. I’d like to think that it will also ignite some creative thinking in others whose eyes will be opened to the potential of non-traditional jon-hunting tools! Keep us posted of any more!
