Facebook Trying to Hijack Twitter Traffic

At the start users used to have lots of ways of adding their twitter updates to their Facebook status updates but I spotted something interesting when logging in to Facebook just now in that Facebook really want you to do the same thing in reverse now using your Facebook status. When logging in to your fan page (this only seems to appear on fan pages at the moment and not on personal profile pages) you are asked very prominently if you would like to “export your Facebook Page updates to Twitter” before being brought to the following screen….

This is a really interesting development as this now means that Facebook is trying to piggyback on Twitter for a little extra traffic while also allowing their content to spread even further through the web. Many users found that using Twitter to update your Facebook status was messy and probably too noisy for the your somewhat quieter Facebook fans but Facebook have a load of options on how you filter the data you send to Twitter so this seems like a much better sharing option…

All in all it will be interesting to see how Facebook data coming into the Twitter stream is received but all in all it is a far better fit than data being sent the other way in my opinion. Will you be sharing your Facebook data through Twitter.
