Design your own QR code with QR Hacker

While QR codes seem to split opinion, with one side seeing them as marketing genius and the other seeing them as a flash in the pan (and admittedly a third ‘other’ who still don’t know what they are), there’s no doubt that as free marketing tools go right now, they’re a good bit of fun.

Enter a new app – QR Hacker – that is about to add to the fun! The app, built by a small but dedicated team of creative heads from Carnation Group, allows anyone, no matter how advanced your design skills are, to design your own QR code. That means you don’t have to stick to the standard black and white options offered by most sites and can go for something a little bit different instead.

The site is very easy to use : the example above took just a couple of minutes to mock up and gives you a taster of the kind of design you can go for. To customise your own QR code, simply go to the site and follow the instructions, split into 6 steps:

The first step is to enter the url/text/phone number you want the QR code to lead to, and then you get onto the customisation. You then follow the instructions to customise it, and you can get as creative as you want here, either opting for simple customisation of the colour scheme, or getting more advanced and uploading a photo to feature in the design. Some of the stunning examples are available to view on the site:

When testing the site I did find it a little bit buggy, but this is still a great example of a free web app that offers a streamlined user experience and a nice value-added business offering.
