Hi Lauren,

You are not alone in your continuous partial attention disorder. In fact I'm thinking of starting a support group but I'm sure by next week my attention will be elsewhere...

I don't think this is a new problem, I think it's just become more obvious to all of us as our access to more information, more of the time, makes us realise how little ground we are managing to cover. Anyone who had to write an essay or a paper on a topic will recall the sinking feeling as they skimmed bibliographies trying to decide which were the most relevant texts to read on their chosen subject.
I actually read your whole post very carefully and await my Amazon voucher with anticipation :)

It is an interesting point. As peoples thirst for information grows larger and the web delivers more information from multiple source(iphone, ebook etc) in real time(activity stream, pubsubhubbub etc) will people suffer from an uber overload of content and begin to look for feed based delivery to decipher the noise from the quality.

I read as far as the Noise image and skimmed the rest - your own post is proving your point Lauren :) And I honestly didn't even realise I was doing so until I saw Colm's comment!

Haha, well as long as you got the important bits! A lot has to do with the design as well, I think when we see more than a few paragraphs of text together we just skim over it. It'll be interesting to try the NYT 'skimmer' out anyway.

It's an interesting topic.

I just realised I read the first half and skimmed the second half. But on the topic of the NYT, I think papers have always been designed for the skim reader to glance over what the headlines and dip in deeper when one catches the eye.
