Why you and your company should video blog

Posted on May 14th, 2009 by Lauren Fisher in Blogging, Social Media, Video

I have been producing video blog content for some time now and I am a firm believer that it is one of the most important tools that can be used for social media by businesses. Most people are usually scared by the whole process but hopefully this video and some of the info below will help dispel some of the myths around video…….

10 Tools that you can use to get your message across through video

1.Choosing a camera is not as complicated as you think. You can of course by a professional video camera but the truth is your videos will be pretty straight forward so use either the web camera on your computer or a simple camera phone will even do the job.

2.You could splash out on expensive editing software but I make all my videos using either Movie maker for windows of iMovie on the Mac. Both of these programs are usually free and you will find plenty of tutorials on YouTube and the web. It is literally as simple as copying and pasting and a 5 year old could edit.

3.Get a watermark. This is the little logo that can be found in the corner of my videos. You can use your own company logo or even just write your URL in text. This is crucial as your video will be seen on many other sites and people who like your video will invariably type in the URL to get to your site.

4.Upload all your videos to Tubemogul. This is a service that will allow you to upload your video to their site and they will then publish it to 30 video sites on the web with tags and titles. This is a crucial step to growing your brand on the web.

5.YouTube is the elephant in the room with millions of views so make sure your video gets published there correctly and try to start growing a following there by leaving comments on other people’s videos within your niche.

6.Upload to your social networks including Facebook, Myspace and Friendfeed. The chances are you will have a couple of hundred friends there already and they will automatically see your video in their news feeds. Lovely way to get a few followers straight off the bat.

7.If you are totally shy and don’t want to appear on camera why not do demos of your own product or reviews of other products using a screen cast service such as Camtasia

8.If you have a great personality and enjoy using services such as Twitter and Facebook then why not take a step further and push your brand by using the video equivalent such as Seesmic or 12 Seconds.

9.Make a snazzy little intro using LiveType or other free software. You can just use your logo and make it zoom in or out or do a crazy little spin! This will make you look a lot more professional and make people think that you have a massive brand even if you have just made it sitting in your living room.

10.Add a couple of free sound effects using some like Partners in Rhyme. Again this will make people think you have sound technicians working for you and add to the allure.

Use these simple tips and don’t be shy or worry what people will think about you and soon you will be driving tons of extra traffic to your site and building your brand to the next level!
