X Factor Special – Give Your Blog The Jedward Treatment
I have never been a fan of X factor. I hate it in fact. Waste of time. I wouldn’t even give it a couple of minutes in the past but this year I had been hearing an awful lot of fuss about Jedward and when I happened to spot them a couple of weeks ago I was transfixed. They didn’t have a note in their head, their singing was even out of time with the backing track and their outfits could be described as shocking at best. Something wasn’t right though, for the first time ever I couldn’t turn it off, I was totally transfixed. I wanted more. So how the hell has it got to the stage where I can’t wait for a Saturday night to come around to watch 2 camp teens dancing and singing in jumpsuits and what does it have to do with blogging and social media? Well we could all learn a lot from these 2 chirpy Irish chappies and put it into practice…
Give Every Ounce
The lads give 100% passion and don’t leave an ounce of energy out of their performance, you should do the same on your blog. Don’t just write something for the sake of it. Don’t just go through the motions by embedding a video as a filler. Don’t hit publish when you know you could do better.Give it your all every single time.
Fuck The Haters
If you stand out form the crowd and try and do something different a certain percentage of people are going to hate you, that’s a fact. If you are trying something different on your blog and a small percentage of people don’t like your content don’t let it get to you. Some people hate Gary Vaynerchuk and call him all sorts of names but luckily for him loads of people love him, he doesn’t listen to the haters. Be like the lads and hold your head up high no matter what people around you say.
Play To Your Strengths
The lads go out and rap and jump around a lot because they know they can’t sing. They don’t try and sing big ballads because they would be thrown out of there quicker than they could peel those jumpsuits off. If your blog is about SEO and SEM then stick to that, don’t start trying to write about social media or advertising, it’s not what you do best. Not enough people play to their strengths like the lads do.
Believe In Yourself
Every other contestant that I see walking out there (and acts like Robbie Williams and Whitney Houston) are wrecked with nerves. The 2 lads go out there with no fear and perform as if it was their last ever performance, as if they have nothing to lose. Don’t doubt your own ability to blog just because other people have been around for years doing it or have 20,000 followers or get 50 comments. If you don’t believe in your own ability then nobody else ever will and hard work and graft will get you a lot further than talent alone.
Be A Showstopper
There are far more talented artists in the show than Jedward but I have no interest in them. I wouldn’t be watching the show but for them. I’ll tune out when they are gone. This is the same for your blog, there are 1000s of blogs that are competing for my attention. Make yours special, make it a showstopper. Make me drool at the thought of the next post. Break the rulebook, throw away the set formula and give me something that leaves me begging for more.
We could all learn a lot from these 2 lads and apply it to our own blogging lives, in case you hadn’t seen them before here they are in all their glory…
