Blink 182 reward fans for ‘stealing’ their music on Youtube

Bands are artists are increasingly using social media to market themselves and release their music and Blink 182 are the latest band to turn to social media in a new way. They’re working with AT&T for the release of their new single, and they decided to reward all their fans that had ‘borrowed’ Blink 182′s music in their own videos. For their first single in 8 years ‘Up All Night’ they put trawled Youtube for fans that had uploaded videos using Blink 182′s tracks and put them in their official single video. The only thing is, they didn’t tell these fans!

This is a great use of social media by Blink 182 and I haven’t really seen anything like this before. It shows them being savvy and quite cheeky, essentially doing to their fans what the fans did to them! Of course it’s a huge honour for these fans to feature in the latest video for Blink 182 and given that this is their first single in 8 years it’s a great way to reignite the fan community.
