Nokia Lumia Tips & Tricks
We’ve been playing around with the Nokia Lumia 800 in the office here (kindly sent to us for review by Nokia Ireland), and we’re quite impressed by what the phone has to offer. The Lumia has an intuitive interface and there’s just something incredibly satisfying about navigating the phone.
The biggest drawback would be the apps on offer through the Nokia app store, but they seem to be getting better at this. And as with any smartphones, there’s the usual battery problem, which did seem slightly worse on the Lumia compared to other Nokia smartphone models (about the same as the iPhone).
Rather than giving a full video review of the phone, I’ve put together five little tips that show the phone in action and just how nice it is to use.
Add Facebook friends to your homescreen
The Lumia works on ’tiles’ for the homescreen, allowing you to add different apps and shortcuts that you can easily navigate around. A pretty cool feature here is the ability to add any of your Facebook friends to the homescreen as a tile, once you’ve synched your account.
Auto-Correct Images
This is really for those who are super conscientious about the quality of their mobile photos. When you take a photo on the Lumia, you can auto-correct it with the option to fix the brightness on the image.
Battery Saver Mode
In recognition of the fact that the battery life isn’t the best, the phone has a nice built-in battery saver mode. This includes functions such as restricting apps from running in the background, although for some reason it doesn’t adjust the brightness on the phone, which means you’ll have to do this manually within the settings:
Shortcode for diagnostics
The Lumia has a detailed diagnostics screen, allowing you to test different functionality on the phone and access in-depth information on the phone’s memory. This can be accessed by dialling the shortcode ##634# from the keypad:
View Facebook photo uploads
This is perhaps one of my favourite features on the Lumia. When you go to view your latest photos, you have the option to view uploads from Facebook, once you’ve synced your account. This pulls in those updates from your Facebook friends and Pages that contain photos.
