Foursquare have teamed up with popular American convenience store 7 – Eleven to launch their competition which rewards people for checking in to their stores on the location based service. It’s all to do with promoting the launch of the new movie Super 8 and there are over 21,000 prizes to be won for checking in. This is a very smart promotion for all parties involved as it drives people in to stores to check in (where they can also unlock specials), it promotes the movie and it also gets lots more people using Foursquare. In terms of a competition with mass market appeal this really is one of the best we have seen. Who doesn’t want to go in to space?
How It Works
There are over 21,000 prizes to be won so even if you don’t get to go in to space you could have a chance of winning something simply by checking in. Every 88th person to check in wins a free movie ticket. Every 88,888th person wins a weightlessness experience with Zero gravity corp. And the 888,888th person wins the final prize of actually going on a private mission to space estimated at a more than $100,000 value. There have been 15,000 checkins already so you can see this taking off and once it gets closer to the magic number there should be a serious scramble.
