Foursquare App To Bring Monopoly To The Real World
I’ve long stated my indifference to Foursquare personally. I can see the benefits to brands and small businesses and can see it growing substantially in front of my eyes but personally I think I am over committed on social networks as it is and I don’t really have much interest in letting other people know where I am or winning badges. I could possibly see the benefit in getting discounts and coffees but being in marketing myself and an eternal sceptic I feel that I spend enough time having my behavior targeted online that making my movements in the real world know to companies who might exploit what I do is not something I am comfortable with. Having said all of that I have spotted something in the last few days that might just get me to log in to Foursquare for a little trial. Real world monopoly is coming to Foursquare.
Now I don’t know if you are as excited about this as I am but I always did have a soft spot for the most entrepreneurial of board games where greed is rewarded and you get to screw people out of there money while watching them rot in jail! An app is currently in production that would work off the Foursquare API and allow you to set up your own Monopoly board in your local city competing against friends. The idea is that you “buy” venues and then charge your friends “rent” when they check in. How exciting is that? The whole badge thing never really did it for me but I have to say that something like this might, just might get me on to Foursquare to play a game of this for a week when it comes out…
