An easy way to create a mobile version of your website

Mobile internet access is on the increase, but many organisations don’t have mobile versions of their websites. I’ve stumbled upon a very easy way to build a mobile version of your website for free, without the need for any developers (if you want to keep it simple). Mobify.me is a great site that offers you drag and drop design of your website.
How to
As soon as you create an account on mobify and start playing around with it, you can see how easy it is to use. There is a great podcast from t3chh3lp however, that will take you through each step from start to finish and some of the benefits of the site.
Nice features
Mobify offers some really nice functionality, including :
Full CSS access. If you want something a bit more complex than the drag and drop display available, you can access the CSS to modify the code to make the display more customisable, making it a good option for those that are a little more tech-savvy.
Preview. This is one of the nicest things about the site, in that it lets you preview your site for an iPhone, Nokia, Blackberry or Razr.
Customisable additions. In the first section where you are choosing the elements of the site you’d like, this was completely customisable. For example, I could either choose to select the whole header, or just individual elements. I also wasn’t forced to select the whole top bar navigation, but I could select individual tabs. This is handy for us, as I wouldn’t need to include the ‘ebook’ section on a mobile site, as this leads to a pdf download.
Individual pages. Depending on how long you want to spend on it, Mobify gives you the option to create mobile versions for each page of your website, leaving you with a consistent design and user experience.
Redirect. The site will give you a snippet of code that you can put into your website, that will automatically take people to the mobile version of your website, as it can detect how your site is being accessed. Pretty neat!
I really recommend you give this site a try, you can have a mobile version of your site up in minutes, with no extra cost or skill needed. I’m still playing around with the design of our site – gets addictive ![]()
