Graph Shows Why Facebook And Twitter Will Beat Google +

The graphic below has been shared all over the social web today as a reason why Google + is going to beat the pants off Facebook and Twitter and achieve world domination in record time. It shows some interesting results but I think this shows the complete opposite and if anything it paints a picture where Facebook and Twitter are winning and will continue to win the social battle (You can find the original here along with some great comments). If the competition was to get as many users as quickly as possible then Google would be off to a great start and winning by a country mile but that isn’t the name of the game. The competition is about getting users to engage with each other and create a social space where people share everything with their friends and family. The wavy lines of Facebook represent real users engaging with their friends, creating value and growing organically. The straight line of Google is completely un-natural and completely non organic. You can’t just bulldoze your way in to social.

The info was provided by Paul Allen and shows huge Google + growth

So if the 2 biggest and best social networks have taken pretty much exactly the same path isn’t it a little unusual that Google has found a newer faster way of creating social? It’s all about the hype of course and showing how quickly users have been added but this confirmed what I already thought about Google + being over hyped and just being packed full of people who wanted an invitation and to have a quick look at the latest hot service online. Maybe over time Google + will follow the same sort of graph as Facebook and Twitter and they will do so from a higher starting point with millions of users but this graph doesn’t mean a much as people think it does.
