Videos Explain The Huge New Changes To Facebook Privacy Settings

Facebook has been under huge pressure from Google + and it looks like they have fired back today with the launch of a series of new tools that more or less copy some of the best features that Google + introduced a couple of months ago. The main focus of these updates is on privacy a move that Facebook didn’t seen too keen on only a couple of months ago so it is interesting to see them changing their tune all of a sudden. All of the changes are explained in the videos below and will be rolling out to users this week.
Making It Easier to Share with Who You Want: Profile
Now Facebook has made it easier for you to control which information you are sharing with which groups of people. For example you might not want certain people to see where you currently work, or your relationship status (that’s bound to come in handy for some people!). Now with the privacy settings on the right hand side of the profile page you can control this easily. By clicking on edit profile, you can see an easy overview of your profile information, and who can currently view it.
You can also choose to change your settings for who can view a certain post, even after it’s published, So if you’ve shared too much information with the wrong group of your friends, you can change this after the event.
View photos before they appear
A much needed change now introduced by Facebook is the ability to review posts and photos that you’re tagged in. This means that you will receive a notification, if you have this selected, that you have a pending post to review. You can then see this photo within your pending posts and choose whether to approve it or not.
Sharing posts with groups of people
Privacy settings have moved to the right hand side of the page, making it easier to control who you share your content with. If you only want to share a particular post with a certain group of friends, you can customise this within the post itself. This is done on a button to the right hand side of the post. Facebook will remember this setting for the next time you post, so remember to change it back if you want your post to be viewable by everyone. This setting makes it easier to control your privacy settings in Facebook and gives you a lot more easy control over who can view your content.
Tagging Places
Facebook have made it easier to share and tag your location on the platform, separate to checkins. There are now 3 main ways in which you can do this. The first is through updates on the wall, by selecting a city to accompany the update. You can do this by city or the particular place name, depending on how specific you’d like to make this. A similar tagging system also works for uploading photos, whereby you can select a city or place to accompany the photo as you post it. You can also edit the location of an existing photo, by clicking on ‘edit’.
Check-in has also remained as a way to share your location via mobile. Importantly, you can choose not to share your location by turning this off before you post. But some users may get caught out as this is more opt-out than opt-in
