Everybody gets the marketing power and huge reach of Facebook but this short video from Nike who are one of the most successful brands in the world really explains why big brands love the social network. Nike have been using Facebook since the early days and have built up a huge following all over the world and it is interesting to hear them say that they are starting to treat the platform on level terms with television in terms of getting their message across. The most interesting part is where they state that the overall goal of the campaign was to have a father and son watching the champions league final where they both see the ad on television and the father says “isn’t that new advert amazing” and the son replies with “yeah I saw it on Facebook this morning and shared it with all my friends already”. That is a fairly high level goal but of course that is exactly what happened with the advert in the video as it spread all over the world in days. Nike have shown over the last few decades that they are the masters of advertising and marketing so when they are saying things like “the Facebook like button is the most important thing on the internet today” then you really do have to sit up and listen.
