Facebook Testing Out ‘Add To Map’ Feature On Place Pages

Among the different features Facebook is rolling out, some of them are far more subtle, introduced without any announcement or fanfare. Inside Facebook have spotted that at the top right hand corner of any place page, there is a new option called ‘Add to Map’ located alongside the ‘Add new page’ option.

The option allows users the chance to create a post that will show up on their map as well as their timeline. While users normally say there at a location when they’re actually there via mobile, this feature allows them to add in location retrospectively, allowing users to flesh out their Timeline but more importantly, it gives businesses and brands another opportunity for people to check-in in their places, and gain further exposure.

Since Facebook is focusing more on location, the chance for the site to offer social recommendations based on where you’ve been will be easier than ever for them. This also works for advertising since this extra information will lead to more targeted advertisements.

How the feature works is simple, when users click on the ‘Add to map’ button, a publishing window appears where you can write a post, set the date, tag friends and adjust viewing options. Once done, the post both appears on your Timeline as well as  on your map alongside the other locales you’ve checked-in to during your time on Facebook. [Images originally from Inside Facebook]
