The 10 Biggest Sports Teams On Facebook
Sports teams around the world have for years attracted huge communities of passionate passionate about their team and with the rise of social media and Facebook in particular these fans are starting to congregate online. The beauty of most of the Facebook pages below is that unlike brands and businesses who to a large extent need to spend lots of money to have people like the brand most of these pages have grown organically with fans more than happy to like their favorite team and get the latest information and news sent to their news feed. There are some early examples of brands including the NBA trying to sell to their fans as well but for the most part these sports teams are just embracing the community and keeping them up to date with the latest news. It will be interesting to see how these sports pages evolve over the coming years and what the clubs try to do with these huge communities of passionate fans.
FC Barcelona (6,347,126 Likes)
Top of the list are the Spanish giants who have a huge support both in Spain and all around the world for the beautiful football they play. Will be pleased to be ahead of their huge rivals Madrid in this particular league table. Lots of interactive features here including links to buy tickets and merchandise as well as a pretty cool app which plots the location of Barcelona fans all over the world.

Real Madrid (5,352,891 Likes)
Pipped at the post and pushed in to second spot we have the second Spanish team on the list an arguably the biggest club in the world. The certainly have the world’s biggest star (Christiano Ronaldo who appears much higher up the list with 15 millions likes on his own) and the world’s best manager in Jose Murinho. Will have to do a bit of work to get the first place back soon!

Manchester United (4,360,634 Likes)
The biggest club in the world in my opinion (I am a fan) and great to see them so high in the list and growing so fast as their page only launched recently. No really great apps or interactive ways of engaging on the page but there is a huge amount of discussion on the wall with a very active community engaging in chatter about everything from matches to updates on what the team are up to.

LA Lakers (3895342 Likes)
A team that are always well known in the basketball world and surprisingly the first non soccer team on the list. Very little happening on this page apart from some photos and videos and discussion from fans on the wall. A classic example of a page that gets a ton of likes simply because of the team that it is rather than anything actually happening on the page. Huge potential here for growth.

Liverpool FC (3,196,016 Likes)
As our biggest rivals it pains me to put this one on the list but yet another football team makes it in to the list in the form of Liverpool. It also pains me to see that they have one of the most creative landing pages I have ever seen on Facebook in terms of creating likes with Stevie G pointing to the like button.

New York Yankees (2,346,889 Likes)
The second American team on the list and the first entry from a baseball team. Well known as one of the biggest sports frnachises and best known sports brands in the world I am surprised not to see the Yankees higher up the list. Again not an awful lot happening on their page apart from some good fan discussions on the wall and lots of photos from fans at matches. Another example of the fans taking the lead on this one.

Chelsea Football Club (2,353, 252 Likes)
Back to the football teams and this time it is money bags Chelsea who also happen to be the champions of England but have not always had a huge fan base. They do have some good competitions on there as well as links through to their shop and generally good levels of engagement with their fans.

Ferrari (2,283,252 Likes)
I was in a bit of doubt if I should add this one to the list but at the end of the day they are one of the biggest sports brands in the world and their page is pretty much mostly dedicated to their F1 racing team. Interesting to see that they have integrated a store in to the page where you buy Ferrari merhcandise.

Arsenal (2,170, 256 Likes)
Another football team rounds out the list and it’s one of the best built pages on the list. Lots of interactive elements here including a great way to see the entire team, where you can actually like individual players as well as a store where you can buy the latest shirts and a live streaming video show that follows the matches. By far the best Facebook page on the list.

AC Milan (1,707,281 Likes)
Yet another football team and our first team for the Seria A in Italy. AC Milan have always had a good following and although the design on their page is simple they do have the important tools like linking through to their shop and a tab that gives you the latest news. Lots of interaction with fans makes this a great place for AC Milan fans to hang out.
