Last week we were lucky enough to have a story featured on a couple of big sites and it generated over 800 Re tweets so we decided to have a closer look and see if there was any interesting data within the analytics of the tweets and see if we could extract any interesting patterns. What we also noticed was that because there was so much data we got to see what apps people were using to access Twitter and just how long the story was popular on the site itself. Have a look and see what 800 Re tweets does for you on Twitter…
On Wednesday we were featured on Techcrunch and we just wanted to share some of the traffic stats so as we could give some perspective into the amount of traffic you can expect from one of the biggest blogs in the world. The important thing to do is not just accept the spike of traffic but try to optimize your site so as you can catch RSS readers, new Facebook fans or whatever other goal is best for you. You won’t get covered that often so make sure you get it right when you do.

You probably want to grow the readership on your blog, the majority of people do. There are a lot of different ways to do this including SEO, writing great content, building community and using social media but one that most people overlook is guest blogging. So the idea is simple…you write posts for other blogs that are in your niche and expose your writing and ideas to a whole new audience. You can create the best blog content in the world but if people don’t get to read that content it can become frustrating. You can see how we post guest articles on other sites like Lauren writing on Mashable and me writing on Rotorblog, these are both well established successful blogs in our own niche with substantial traffic.

What it overlooks is the need for good distribution – essentially communication – of the content you produce. There’s no point in having good content if no-one’s consuming it. It simplifies the fact that anyone producing good content actually has to work hard to make people find it and that the content alone is not going to bring people to your website. Other than with a bit of good SEO. You need to create a community on your website,

You wouldn’t let the paint peel off the walls and not wash the floors or take out the rubbish for a couple of months. Appearance and perception is everything in the real world and it will affect how much you sell. People don’t like shabby shops with empty shelves. Guess what? The same principles apply online. Consumers and potential business partners form an opinion within a couple of seconds when checking you out online. Keep reading to find out some of the biggest mistakes I see businesses making online…
I was at a conference yesterday trying to explain to people why they should be spending their time online and one of the biggest factors that came across was the fear of the unknown about these fancy tools we all use online. I tried to explain that the tools we use very much mirror real [...]
