Ciara all I can say is that you have made my day! Spend so many hours writing this blog and have plenty of people saying it is useless shite but when I see examples of people using it and putting it to good use it makes my day You have a new subscriber and it may not do much for you but somebody could just see it and you could get a massive booking out of it. I actually find it fun to do and you can now see that it literally takes about 20 seconds Keep it up!

Fred you are defo not exagerating. I would see it as just another way of being able to control your brand. So you could pretty much own the search page results between Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, your own site etc etc pushing any bad stuff down off the homepage where nobody will actually look!

I think like you alude to you just need to be careful what sort of content you post, like for example on my one it is just crappy quality pictures of my dinner with an iPhone which would never take away from our bread and butter which is Lookandtaste where all the professional stuff is. I guess finding someting that compliments your content rather than competing with your main blog would be best. Were you thinking of setting one up yourself?

Thomas I used blogspot for my first year of blogging and having used them all since then one thing I would say is CHANGE! I know it might seem like it is great at the moment but I just find there is so much more freedom and plugins etc on WordPress! You’ll never look backk!

I set up a Tumblr blog the day I got my iphone after your recommendation and couldn’t agree more! Its so easy to use and fun! Blogging on the go, ads another element to my business as oppossed to just my main blog and as you said, more lasting than twitter. you can see mine over on http://weddingdates.tumblr.com/ and theres random love quotes and photos from hotels I visit all the time around Ireland.

Great post Niall. I spend a few good hours last week researching Tumblr and Posterous. For several reasons I would be more inclined to go with Tumblr too…
By reading some reviews I noticed that everybody agrees on the following: “very easy to use, powerful and very customisable” etc, (as you said). Also, as you mention it’s important that all this content will mean ZERO Google juice for your own domain… My question is: What if… becasue it’s super easy, I can include absolutely everything there in a second, it’s fun, etc, etc… my Tumblr blog becomes the first choice for a big percentage of my readership?
Am I exagerating?

I use the blogspot platform over wordpress and tumblr because it’s also very easy to use, powerful and very customisable. It also integrates with google analytics and all other google applications. I’m thinking of setting up an account just to explore it and maybe mirror some content over to it, but don’t want to double post as I’m told that it’s bad for google SEO. I guess I’m brand loyal without even realising it.
Tumblr is also linked into ping.fm which is new. All these blogging platforms now link into your mobile, which is great so maybe I should upgrade my phone so I can do other things while on the train beside enjoy the view and ruminate over things. But then again, this is probably why I haven’t updated my phone because I don’t want to take work with me everywhere. There’s a time and place for blogging and it isn’t on a train platform!

Glad you included Tumblr in one of your posts. It really is the easiest platform for blogging and I’m also glad to see you suggest to forget about traffic and revenue. There’s nothing wrong with either of the two but it’s great to have an outlet whose singular goal is creativity.

I don’t know if you need to even keep talking about the same topics everyday but I agree that having a reoccurring theme allows users to connect and associate themselves with your blog quickly.
